Building Permits & Plan Review
All commercial construction within the PFA service area must be reviewed, approved, and inspected by PFA. See the contractor's section for information about the permitting process.
All open burning, where allowed within the boundaries of PFA's 235-square-mile service area, requires a permit. Please refer to the resources below to view the requirements and access the online Application for Open Burning.
No burn permits will be issued for addresses with the restricted burn area. The only exception for which we evaluate and consider issuing a permit is for valid agricultural burns. You can verify your location on the PFA Restricted Burn Map before applying for a permit.
Permit Applications for Property in Larimer County
Apply through Larimer County, which manages and approves these applications.
Permit Applications for Property in Weld County
Apply through Weld County, which manages and approves these applications.
Permits are required for installation and major maintenance of fire-protection equipment and special hazard facilities in the City of Fort Collins, Town of Timnath, communities of Laporte and Bellvue, and the Poudre Valley Fire Protection District. These include:

- Cellulose nitrate film
- Combustible dust-producing operations
- Combustible fibers
- Compressed gases
- Covered mall buildings
- Cryogenic fluids
- Fireworks displays
- Flammable and combustible liquids
- Fumigation and thermal insecticidal fogging
- Haunted House
- Hazardous materials
- HPM facilities
- High-piled storage
- Industrial ovens
- Liquid-or gas-fueled vehicles or equipment in assembly buildings
- Miscellaneous combustible storage
- Open burning
- Organic coatings
- Private fire hydrants
- Pyrotechnic special effects material
