Emergency Notifications and Updates During Wildfires and Other Incidents 

Larimer County and Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) use NOCOAlert, powered by Everbridge, to notify the community when immediate action is needed to protect life and safety. 

NOCOAlert – How to Sign Up and How It’s Used 

NOCOAlert is the official emergency notification system for Larimer County. Residents and visitors can sign up at NOCOAlert.org to receive alerts by phone call, text message, and email.

You can customize how and where you receive alerts, including adding multiple locations (home, work, school, vacation locations, etc.). 

PFA and local partners use NOCOAlert only when an incident requires people to take action for their immediate safety. 

Examples of Messages You May Receive

NOCOAlert messages may include: 

  • Shelter-in-Place instructions 

  • Voluntary Evacuation notices 

  • Mandatory Evacuation orders 

  • Other urgent protective actions related to wildfire, flooding, hazardous materials, law enforcement activity in the area, or other emergencies 

These messages are issued when conditions are evolving, and timely action is critical. 

Where to Find More Information about Emergencies and First Responder Calls  

Poudre Fire Authority post timely (but non-emergent) updates about responses on social media. These posts will initially include information such as the location of the incident, what firefighters are doing, what the situation was when responders arrive, and other updates as they become available. Posts will go out on the following platforms:

  • Agency and county emergency websites 

These platforms are used for situational awareness, status updates, and preparedness information. 

When Are Evacuations Issued?

Evacuations are triggered when fire behavior, weather, access limitations, or other hazards indicate that the public must take action to protect health and life safety. Decisions are based on the best available information at the time and may change as conditions evolve. 

What Do Agencies Do During an Evacuation 

During evacuations, fire departments and law enforcement agencies: 

  • Conduct door-to-door notifications when time and conditions allow 

  • Support evacuation routes and traffic control 

  • Coordinate sheltering and re-entry when safe 

However, door-to-door notification is not guaranteed in fast-moving or dangerous conditions. 

Important: Don’t Wait If You Feel at Risk 

If you believe you are at risk, self-evacuate immediately. Do not wait for an official notification. Leaving early can reduce congestion, improve safety, and allow first responders to focus on the most critical needs.
