New AED Installed in Old Town Square

A new automated external defibrillator (AED) is now available for public use in one of Fort Collins’ busiest gathering spaces, adding another layer of lifesaving protection for residents and visitors.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the installation of the AED and the partners that made it possible. The AED is located on the north side of the Old Town Stage in Old Town Square, making it easily accessible during concerts, festivals, and everyday downtown activities.

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere. Bystander involvement and the use of an AED early are the two factors which have time and time again been shown to drastically change the outcome.

“This AED puts lifesaving technology right where people gather,” said Public Information Officer Annie Bierbower with Poudre Fire Authority (PFA). “In a cardiac emergency, seconds matter. Having an AED in Old Town Square gives bystanders the power to act before first responders arrive. We are fast, but never as fast as someone who is already there.”

The new AED is designed to be used by anyone. It provides clear voice and visual instructions and will only deliver a shock if it detects a heart rhythm that requires it.

This installation supports PFA’s ongoing efforts to build a HeartSafe Community by increasing access to AEDs, teaching CPR, and empowering residents to help in emergencies.

This AED was made possible through the work and generosity of:

  • AED Everywhere
  • City of Fort Collins
  • Downtown Development Authority
  • Poudre Fire Authority
  • Poudre School District
  • UCHealth Foundation
