Ride Alongs

The Poudre Fire Authority offers the individuals the ability to come to the fire station and "Ride-a-long" with a crew. Rides that are scheduled on Monday through Friday, typically begin at 4:00 P.M. and last for 4 hours. During this time riders are able to interact with the firefighters, ask questions about the lifestyle and the fire department, and go with crews on actual emergency calls. Rides are also offered during the weekend. These times typically begin around 11:00 A.M.

Ride a longs will be around the fire station during dinner time if riding on a week day and are invited to join the crews for dinner. Dinner is typically a $5.00 buy in, (but it is well worth it). There is not a specific dress code for riders per say, but we ask that you look respectable as you will be interacting with strangers and be associated with the PFA. No shorts, no sandals, no revealing garments. Typically people will wear slacks, polo type shirts, and closed toe shoes or boots.

Riders will have to fill out a waiver form, as well as go over the "ground rules" with the Captain in charge. It is the officers discretion if riders stay longer than 4 hours. Officers may also send a rider home at any time.

Please note that ride a longs will be suspended on January 1st, 2011 at 12:00 A.M. for all individuals participating in the upcoming 2011 Testing and Hiring process. Rides for applicants will be suspended until June 1st, 2011. After January 1st, 2011 the only people that will be allowed to ride a long with PFA crews will be EMT students (even if they are currently in the testing process). Firefighters while on duty are no longer allowed to assist, coach, or answer any questions pertaining to the testing process. Should a candidate drop by a station they may only ask questions pertaining to the job of firefighting and the Poudre Fire Authority in general.

To schedule your ride a long, please contact our administrative assistant Susan Ferrari at 970-221-6574. She will work out a date and time that work best for you and the crew. Please be aware that riders are also allowed only one ride every 6 months.
