Insurance Service Offices InformationOn March 1, 2005 the Fire Prevention Bureau implemented a new Web based Fire Station Distance program. For the past 20 years Fire Prevention has provided this information over the telephone to mostly Insurance Companies and Underwriters. As part of our continous quality and customer service improvement efforts this new Web based service was developed for providing information related to distances from fire stations and distances from fire hydrants for the purpose of determining public protection classifications based on the Insurance Services Offices (ISO) classifications. Due to the steady increase of these types of call questions, this new Web based service became necessary. The following ISO classifications take into account distances from fire stations and the available fire fighting water supply.
The purpose of the following information is for the determination of public protection classifications which is used to develop property insurance calculations. This survey was not conducted for property loss prevention or life safety purposes and no life safety or property loss prevention recommendations will be made. The private and public protection at properties with larger fire flows is individually evaluated and may vary from the District classification. With few exceptions within the Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) jurisdiction, it is only necessary to determine the distance from a fire station in order to arrive at the correct public protection classification. Within the PFA response area, fire hydrants are required to be spaced at 800 feet intervals for residential neighborhoods and 600 feet in commercial areas. For example an ISO Class 3 classification meets these requirements. Those areas over five (5) road miles, with the exception of Station 9 area (see exception below) are all ISO Class 10. As of March 1, 2005 Fire Prevention will not be providing fire hydrant distances. Customers that still desire this information will need to conduct a site visit to obtain this information. Requests for fire station distances will be referred to the Web for that information. Class 3/9 applies to properties within the Station 9 response area.
Class 3/10 applies to the balance of the district.
